Help In Cooling The Smaller Room: Low Profile Ceiling Fans
If you are interested in buying one or more ceiling fans for your home, what do you do if your rooms are on the smaller side? Perhaps it's the kids bedroom - or perhaps a small walk-in closet. Perhaps you have suspended ceilings that reduce your room overhead - what do you do now?
Low profile ceiling fans are your answer. Typical ceiling fan installations make use of an extended pole or shaft - called a downrod - that connects your ceiling fan unit to the ceiling itself. These downrods are available in various lengths - but they present a problem when the ceiling fan must be mounted in a room where the distance from the floor to the ceiling is restricted.
Low profile ceiling fans install directly to the ceiling without a downrod, and that means that they do not 'hang down' as low. You don't have to sacrifice any quality or features when you purchase low profile ceiling fans - they provide exactly the same features as their larger cousins, but simply take up less space in your room. Some ceiling fan manufacturers also call this type of fan a 'Hugger' or 'close-to-ceiling' type.
If you do not see a model of low profile ceiling fans that you like, you may be able to simply take a regular ceiling fan and install it with flush-mounting. Low profile ceiling fans are great options for those rooms that you might have that have less than 8 feet of room height. They also work great in children's bedrooms, where the kids might jump and play on the bed and perhaps injure themselves on a lower-hanging ceiling fan. One important note: low profile ceiling fans typically do not move as much air around in your room as the lower-hanging types, simply because, being mounted closer to the ceiling itself, the air flow is restricted. What if you are not technically inclined? Well, low profile ceiling fans must be properly installed. The mounting bracket must be securely attached to the ceiling and must be capable of bearing the weight of the unit with all attached accessories (such as lamps). You must also take special precautions to make sure that your low profile ceiling fan unit is properly wired. It you don't think that you're up to the job, it is best to call your local electrician or home remodeler for their expert assistance.
